Caroline Cowan is a fine artist and the founder of Charcoal & Teatime Portraiture, a studio established in November 2024 that celebrates the art of realism through charcoal drawing. From early childhood, Caroline has been dedicated to her craft, showing her work in exhibitions as a teenager and later pursuing formal studies at Max the Mutt College of Animation in Toronto. There, she trained in both concept art and fine art, laying the foundation for her distinct balance of precision and expression.
After graduating, Caroline spent eight years working in the animation industry as a background artist and designer. This experience sharpened her eye for composition, lighting, and atmosphere — skills she now channels into her fine art practice. Throughout her career in animation, she continued to create portraits and still-lifes, returning again and again to charcoal as her medium of choice for its depth, subtlety, and timeless character. Today, through Charcoal & Teatime Portraiture, Caroline focuses on highly detailed, realistic works that capture both likeness and essence. In addition to her studio practice, she teaches private drawing lessons to students of all ages and skill levels, focusing on the fundamentals of drawing and gradually building toward more advanced techniques. Her art invites viewers to slow down, observe, and find beauty in the quiet details of life. |
